For the eight years she has been in business, Los Angeles artist and jewelry designer Douriean Fletcher has been creating the finest one-of-a-kind wearable art. Her work explores not only femininity and cultural identity, but also spirituality and divine power. She believes through dress and adornment women define their beauty on their own terms, andin doing so, authentically express themselves. Her work is featured in Marvel’s Black Panther and the jewelry designs are licensed for consumer sale.
While in college, Douriean was fortunate enough to study in South Africa for a semester. While living there and traveling in Africa generally, she learned about the cultural importance and significance jewelry had in the African culture. That knowledge opened her eyes to understanding that many cultures wear specific pieces of jewelry, which actually tells stories and communicates who people are in their society. From that perspective and interest — and wanting her work to have lasting importance in people’s lives — she began designing jewelry imbued with its own storyline and spirit.
Douriean jewelry is worn by well known visionaries and change makers who have the audacity to go against the grain. Douriean jewelry has also been seen on NCIS New Orleans, The Voice, Roots Series and “Beauty Masters” on TLC, and it is also worn by style makers like Angela Bassett, Robi Reed, Anika Noni Rose, CCH Pounder, Ruth E. Carter, Mbatha and Marsha Ambrosius. Visitwww.douriean.com to view the Black Panther collection.
